Joseph Dhara, MS, LMFT, CAMS-II is a specialist in trauma and an expert in Gender related issues. He is trained as a Sex Therapist and a Marriage and Family Therapist, and in the past trained in work with calming the nervous system, birth preparation, birth experiences, and birth recovery, as well as training in trauma and trauma resiliency, sexual health, and emotional processing and spiritual counseling.
He initially worked with children in various settings (Montessori, day care, camps, swimming/skiing instruction), then worked with people who experience severe and persistent mental illness challenges for nearly 12 years, and then moved to working as a Spiritual Counselor and Massage Therapist for over 12 years. He has worked in both a large and a smaller agency as a therapist, and is now in a small setting practice with Kindred Wellness, which shares some of his interest in neurodiversity, trauma recovery, LGBTQIAP+, and birth work.
Joseph seeks to assist clients in helping them to understand how to best help their nervous system to calm, focus, and recover, and for couples, relational systems, or parents and children, how their nervous systems are similar or different, and ways to trouble shoot a healthy sensory diet and communication approach to these connections.
Joseph is also a partner and parent, and has both adult children and younger ones. He sees parenting as a part of his spiritual path, and enjoys trying to understand how to help those around him be their authentic and happiest selves.
Since the 1990s, Joseph has worked with clients with trauma, and autism / neurodiversity, as well as chronic illness, spiritual challenges and LGBTQIAP+ specific needs. He is able to work with transgender clients needing letters for surgery or hormones, or other needs. He has offered trainings on topics of gender, trauma recovery, spiritual health, and financial wellbeing.
